But there's very little variety in the gameplay loop and, coupled with an interesting but VERY obtusely told story and one of the more underdeveloped and poorly performed lead characters I can remember, this really makes the subpar aspects of it stick out like a sore thumb. Enemies are varied and interesting, your main gun is actually really cool, and the physics engine combined with your psychic abilities is, from a technical standpoint, amazing. Shooting/combat feels sluggish and monotonous, the modification/crafting system and side quests feel like they're just kind of there to have them, and in general it's just a slog to play. Gameplay is -by far- the weakest part of the game. Saying any more would spoil one of the only parts of the game I found interesting, so I'll leave it at that. The FBC is located in a labyrinthine building called "The Oldest House" and is known for its investigation into the paranormal and supernatural. In it, you play as Jesse Faden, a woman investigating the "Federal Bureau of Control" (FBC) for her missing brother. So Control is the next game in a line of third person shooters filled to the brim with Twin Peaks references by developer Remedy games (Max Payne 1/2, Alan Wake, Quantum Break). There's a few tricky parts, but its by no means Dark Souls level of difficulty.Īre the controls intuitive ? For the most part, yes. What's the time commitment to "git gud"? If you can manage to stay awake while playing, really not that long at all. YMMV (but seriously, no, this is not a game to play with the kids). The gameplay is so boring though it might be a good sleeping aide for them. Is this game multiplayer? Nope, purely a singleplayer experienceĬan I play it with my kids? Probably not, its got kind of a creepy Twin Peaks supernatual vibe going on. As such, my review of it is pretty harsh. *note* - This was one of my most anticipated games this year, however I had such a bad time with it I didn't even bother finishing and just watched a few streams to finish the story. So after watching the game awards last night and finding out that not only was this game nominated for game of the year (shout out to Sekiro for being the first of From Soft's uber difficult Soulsborne style games for winning), it actually has already won game of the year from multiple outlets, I figured I should probably put out my review of Remedy's newest shooter, Control.
